What the readers are saying:
English Professor -- Jeffery P. Cain PH.D:
Dear Ed-- I'm a college professor working on a book project about both Indochina wars. In the course of my research (I'm at a fairly early stage as yet), I came across Mekong Mud Dogs. It's about the hundredth personal memoir about the American War I've read. It's also the best, hands down! I just want to thank you for your service, say "Welcome Home," and let you know that I'll certainly be quoting your work when I get to the writing stage. --- It's quite well-written; your sentences are plain, simple, true, and straight: the qualities in good writing most admired by Ernest Hemingway.
Charles Wilson: This book was an awesome read. I am a fellow Veteran and his writing put me right back in it with him. The action starts in the very first chapter! Absolutely recommend this book.
Don Helmick (VN Vet): I believe that you have written an excellent book book that will help to preserve our history on how it really was... History has a way of getting distorted. Your book will belong in the history section of anyone's library. Thanks for your effort!
Zack Reese (US Army Sniper): This is a great read. It is amazing to read and visualize what these men went through and endured. This book instills the inner Warrior spirit and once again reinforces my upmost respect for this generation. Awesome book!
Kevin Murphy (served with Ed in Vietnam): Ed and I arrived in Bravo Co. the same day, although we hadn't yet met... We were just a bunch of FNG's, scared & green. Our baptism came at 3AM when the ship exploded. Got this book yesterday and read it non-stop. Love Ed's writing style..."just say it as u saw it"...no concern for where it "landed". I had forgotten so much of what Ed relates in this book (maybe that was good). This is a must read for anyone who wants to understand combat in Vietnam. Merf, Bravo Company Forever, 3/60th 9 Infantry Division.
Ed Ziek (served with Ed in Vietnam): Ed has delivered an important book to the millions of families attempting to understand their OIF/OEF veterans. CAUTION FOR OLDER VETS: this read may cause ‘Flashbacks’.
Fred Gevalt (Vietnam Vet): "I've probably read 40-50 books-personal accounts of the war. All things being equal, some stand out for their writing, some for their story. Yours stands out for its straightforwardness and honesty."
John Sperry (served with Ed in Vietnam): Ed
Your book is certainly going to piss off some officers and enlisted men, some of the soldiers and certainly the sailors aboard the ships, the Brown Water Navy will be very pleased.
This book shows what the demons of a Vietnam Combat Veteran can do to him and the struggles that one goes thru to redeem himself and get sanity back into his life.
I t takes courage for an individual to write a story about his life, to show others of what he has seen with his own eyes and is ready for the fallout that may happen from sharing his own personal feelings.
Kristi: am about finished with your book, I like that you write so the reader feels like they are right there. That was a horrific war and then the way our government and our people treated you veterans is deplorable and they are still not doing a great job! I found your sniper work interesting,I do not think leeches are great actually the whole walking through the paddys was creepy! I have enjoyed this book and almost done reading. A great history lesson!
Col. Pete Peterson (Ed's Battalion Commander): Many thanks old soldier for a job well done and a book well-written. You saved the day and are indeed my hero.
